Knicks - a special feature of the landscape

to the projects

Despite the icy temperatures, we at KLM Projektentwicklung can once again report on the completion of a ground-mounted photovoltaic system in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein.
The challenge with this plant was to integrate the 4,750 meters of protected hedges and hedgerows that extend over the entire planning area.
Knicks are a special feature that can only be found in Schleswig-Holstein. Towards the end of the 18th century, farmers there planted field and wild fruit trees in straight lines at the edge of their fields to protect them from the cattle of the rural population.
To ensure that these hedges grew particularly densely, branches that were too long or protruding were bent over, which gave the plantations their name. Due to their abundance of flowers, fruit and nuts, the resulting hedgerows serve as a source of food and habitat for many animals, as well as protecting the fields from wind erosion.
Over the centuries, the hedgerows have been declared a cultural asset of the region and their care, preservation and protection have been laid down in the Hedgerow Protection Act.

Historic site in Erfurt

to the projects

It is almost 80 years since Erfurt was bombed during the Second World War. One of the Allied targets was the military airfield in the northern part of Erfurt.
However, the bombs not only hit the airfield, but also spread over an eight-hectare area in its vicinity. Over the following decades, this area, which was marked by bomb craters, was used in a wide variety of ways, from a recycling yard to a storage area for building materials to an unused wasteland.
After a reassessment of the urban wasteland, the city of Erfurt decided to give the area a new form of use and released the site for the construction of an open-space photovoltaic plant.
We - from KLM Projektentwicklung - were then commissioned by ENERPARC AG with the approval planning for the project on this historic site.

Barracks buildings make way for open-space photovoltaic system (Eggesin)

to the projects

It gives us great pleasure to be able to report on the completion of a ground-mounted photovoltaic system in Eggesin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).
This time we were faced with the challenge of converting a former barracks site witha building volume of 130,000m3 into an electricity-producing open space. A total of 17 buildings were demolished. The demolition material was recycled and used to backfill the remaining cellars and for road construction. It goes without saying that contaminated material was separated and disposed of beforehand.
A garage complex was also preserved, in which native bat species are to settle. In addition to bats, the protection of breeding sites for a wide variety of bird species such as house martins, barn swallows and barn owls was also an important issue. Among other things, an island in the forest was preserved and enhanced, and a large number of nesting boxes were hung up for cavity-nesting birds.
In future, 14.7 MWp of solar power will be produced on the 23-hectare site, which will also increase and protect biodiversity.

Complex soil composition in Enge-Sande

to the projects

Once again, we are pleased to announce the completion of one of our projects for ENERPARC AG in Enge-Sande (Schleswig-Holstein).
Up to 8.55 MWp (8,500 MWh per year) of green electricity can now be produced on an area of 15.8 hectares.
But before this could happen, a great deal of planning work had to be done. Due to the extremely complex soil composition of the planned area, the results of the pile-driving and dowel tests varied by several meters in some places, which in turn had a major impact on the stability of the system. With a great deal of specialist knowledge and patience, it was ultimately possible to work out and implement a solution that was gentle on the surface.
This system is now able to supply around 2,700 households with green electricity every year. However, as Enge-Sande only has around 1,130 inhabitants, this village could be supplied entirely with electricity from solar energy. In this way, Enge-Sande is demonstrating what electricity supply could look like in the future.

Innovative Büttel solar park

to the projects

We are proud to announce the completion of the project we developed for ENERPARC AG - for ENERPARC AG "Büttel" in Schleswig-Holstein.
With a total area of almost 80 hectares, this plant is not only its size, but also thanks to the innovative technology of the battery storage system, which we were able to integrate into our planning for the first time. The special thing about the useuse of this innovative technology is that it both keeps the grid flow at a constant average value and makes the system completely self-sufficient. Without an appropriate storage medium, photovoltaic systems draw energy from the local power grid, especially at night.to keep inverters running, for example. Thanks to the battery storage system, this is no longer necessary, as the self-produced electricity isis stored and used for self-supply.
This means that the system in Büttel only supplies electricity and does not consume any, which is another step towards an energy-efficient future.

Grand opening of the Zwickau solar park, Mosel

Press release

Just in time for the nationwide Renewable Energy Day, the ENERPARC AG presented its latest photovoltaic system in Zwickau not only in the presence of the local mayor Constance Arndt, but also with Environment and Climate Protection Minister Wolfram Günther and representatives of the Volkswagen plant in Mosel/Zwickau.

We at KLM Projektentwicklung are also delighted with the completion of this plant. As the exclusive contract partner of Enerparc AG, our range of services for this project encompassed a wide variety of tasks, from acquiring land to securing approval. This also included project management and control of the preparatory construction measures such as demolition work, investigation and remediation of contaminated sites and the design of species protection measures.

Thanks to the electricity supply contract drawn up between Enerparc and Volkswagen, the car manufacturer's plant will be supplied with green electricity from solar energy for the next 20 years. Covering an area of six hectares, 11,610 modules with a total output of around 5.3 megawatts will generate 5.5 million kWh of electricity for the VW plant every year.

Special attention was paid to species protection during the planning of this photovoltaic system. For example, 58 nesting sites for birds, 14 boxes for bats and 52 piles for sand lizards were created in order to preserve the habitat of the resident animal species.

Foundation of LEE Saxony

Press release

Saxony Renewable Energies Association founded!

The Landesverband Erneuerbare Energien Sachsen e.V. (LEE Sachsen e.V.) was founded on February 3, 2022 and registered with the Leipzig Register of Associations. The team leader of KLM Projektentwicklung GmbH & Co. KG, Julia Jaskulla, will be a founding member and 2nd Chairwoman of the state association in the future.

The LEE Sachsen e.V. acts as the Saxon professional association and is your link to federal politics - your Saxon voice in Berlin.

The past few weeks in particular, with the inhumane attack by Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, have shown that it has now become all the more important to see renewable energies not only as a means of preventing the climate crisis (which they undoubtedly and unrivaled are). Renewable energies are the cheapest and easiest way for the Federal Republic of Germany to become independent of (not only but primarily) Russian energy imports. As a result of the Russian war of aggression, renewable energies have a geopolitical and security policy dimension in the eyes of the general public, which many industry representatives have been calling for for years. This impetus must be used to promote renewables across all sectors.

LEE Sachsen e.V. sees itself as a Saxon representative of all sectors of renewables - from planning and generation to final use in all its forms.

We are pleased and proud that Ms. Jaskulla and thus we as the team of KLM Projektentwicklung GmbH & Co. KG can actively shape the work of LEE Sachsen e.V.

2nd PV Forum

On 19.01.2022, the KLM Projektentwicklung team was a guest at the 2nd Leipzig Photovoltaic Forum, which was held as a digital or 2G+ event. In line with the topic "Is the sun shining in political Berlin?", the Maslaton Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH as the organizer of the forum, provided an overview and a legal classification of the contents and effects of the coalition agreement of the new federal government with regard to photovoltaics. The treatment of current, practice-relevant technical issues was not neglected either: in addition to considerations on the privileging of ground-mounted PV systems, the legal classification of agricultural PV was discussed. There was also an insight from the Fraunhofer ISE on current practice and future research issues. The fact that the energy transition is full of hurdles was emphasized by Professor Kaltschmitt from the TU Hamburg for the future energy system. In addition, Hendrik Schramm reported for the ENERPARC AG reported on challenges in the planning and implementation of PV systems. However, both also had a variety of solutions to offer. The day ended with the perspective of PV from the point of view of the DKBa financing bank, and a presentation on the tax implications of leasing agricultural land for RE projects in the event of inheritance, along with possible solutions.

We would like to thank you very much for the invitation and look forward to the next Photovoltaic Forum.

Completions of photovoltaic systems December 2021

to the projects

The year 2021 ends for KLM Projektentwicklung with five further successful project completions for ENERPARC AG planned solar plants. With the ground-mounted photovoltaic systems of ENERPARC AG in Schkölen (Thuringia), Zwickau (Saxony), Stadtallendorf (Hesse) and Flützholm-Süderlügum, Flützholm-Humptrup and Eggebek (all Schleswig-Holstein) will achieve a total output of approx. 119.5 MWp. With an average annual consumption of 3123.18 kWh per household, this output can supply around 35,500 households with green electricity. The construction of the photovoltaic systems in Eggebek (former military base), Schkölen (recultivated area of an open-cast gravel mine) and Zwickau (former ornamental plant nursery from the GDR era) have been made usable again.

We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all those involved in the project, the authorities and municipalities for their excellent cooperation and the successful implementation of the projects.

Completion of the photovoltaic systems Stavenhagen 2, Eggebek, Schwanebeck, Neustadt 1 and 2

to the projects

In November, we were also able to complete a number of projects for ENERPARC AG planned for ENERPARC AG. Five solar plants with a total output of almost 45 MWp were commissioned in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein, Saxony-Anhalt and Hesse. As with all the plants, particular attention was paid to nature conservation in the vicinity of the plants. In Schwanebeck and Stavenhagen, for example, particular attention was paid to preserving the habitats of sand lizards and red-backed shrikes. The compatibility of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems and local species conservation has already been demonstrated in the past at the system we planned in Salzwedel, which several pairs of endangered bird species, including the red-backed shrike, use as breeding grounds.

Completion of the Lauterbach photovoltaic system

to the project

Also in October, a photovoltaic plant was completed in Lauterbach in Hesse. Our office was responsible for the entire project development from acquisition to construction and also took on the approval planning for ENERPARC AG. With an output of 54.7 MWp, up to 18,000 households can be supplied with green electricity every year. A separate transformer station will be built on the 110 kV high-voltage line crossing the plant to feed the electricity into the grid. As part of the construction of the solar park, various species protection measures will be implemented, such as flowering strips for brown larks and skylarks as well as rock piles as habitats for reptiles. The aim is to graze the extensive grassland to be developed with sheep. The implementation of the measures will be accompanied by 5-year monitoring.

Visit to the Eggebek photovoltaic plant

to the project

Yesterday was not a day like any other for us, because instead of working in the Leipzig office, we visited the photovoltaic plant in Eggebek in Schleswig-Holstein. At the plant, which is still under construction, we were able to follow every step of the construction of a solar park: From the installation of the racks to the connection of the power cables to the solar modules. The plant on the former military site will be completed this year and will generate a total output of 56.8 MWp on an area of around 50 hectares. This makes it one of the largest projects for which we have worked for the client ENERPARC AG with the approval planning. Construction in Eggebek started at the beginning of September this year. Prior to this, the site had to be cleared of explosive ordnance.

Completion of the Osterwald photovoltaic system

to the project

The site of the former "FA. Wienerberger" in Osterwald is being put to a new use by a photovoltaic system: In October, a photovoltaic system was installed on the previously fully sealed area by our office for ENERPARC AG with an output of 3.4 megawatts peak (MWp) was realized in October. This output can supply around 1,000 households with green electricity every year. The development plan drawn up back in 2013 has finally been implemented. The local conditions were always taken into account when planning the plant. For example, the rubble from the former brickworks was recycled for the fire department access roads to provide extinguishing water.

GEO Nature Day

As part of the GEO Day of Nature, the flora and fauna found in seven solar parks was examined. The focus was on the contribution of solar parks to biodiversity. The results of the investigations were presented in GEO magazine (November 2021 issue), in a background paper and summarized by the Federal Association of the New Energy Economy (bne) published as fact sheets for each solar park examined. The findings help the solar industry to consciously take measures to support the development of species-rich habitats in new solar parks - as biodiversity PV.
